me myself and I Posted August 5, 2007 Report Posted August 5, 2007 Problem 1: Both passenger doors not locking.Problem 2: This has only started to happen. The interior lights come and stay on if not switched to the middle positon.I no they should stay on in 1 pos but seems like the timer is not working for both front and middle lights.Problem 3: The elec windows will operate even if their is no key in the ignition.Problem 4: The temp gauge on the dash drops back to the white when driving (see previous post) Is there any way that these could be related by a dodgy relay/earth.............!!!!!!!!!!!!! :( Quote
NikpV Posted August 5, 2007 Report Posted August 5, 2007 Iwould start by investigating the wires in the rubber boots connecting the doors to the car - confirmed weakness and can cause problems like these - insulation can crack and allow shorts or wires can break check out the faq (click on the piccy in my signature) there are several mentions of the rubber boots Quote
johnswlondon Posted August 6, 2007 Report Posted August 6, 2007 the ecu for the cnetrallocking is under the passenger seat, slide the seat forward for access.lift the lid off altogether and checkfor signs of water in the `basin`!this is a very common fault, and can be checked very quickly. my solution, which you wont find elsewhere,is to remove the front plastic wheelarch liners altogether, remove the rubber flaps which are supposed to drain windscreen water on either side of the windscreen ,and remove the plastic grills whch the flaps are attached to-and dont put them back.problem solved failing this,i agree with the broken wire in the door idea Quote
me myself and I Posted August 6, 2007 Author Report Posted August 6, 2007 OK.No water in the 'basin' under pass seat.Dry and dusty.A good sign. Went on to check door connectors and found this. Will be phoning breakers in the morn Quote
insider Posted August 6, 2007 Report Posted August 6, 2007 Will be phoning breakers in the mornA bit drastic sending your car to the breakers for the sake of a bit of wiring! :P Quote

This can be ruled out for later '98-on models, as the central locking module is not there. Quote
